Is dark beer always stronger than light beer?<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"329\" data-end=\"486\">No. The color of a beer comes from the malt, not the alcohol content. A dark stout might be 4.5 %, while a light IPA might be 7\u20138 %. What is the difference between lager and ale?<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"548\" data-end=\"591\">The difference comes from the yeast and the fermentation temperature.<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"592\" data-end=\"725\">\n<li data-start=\"592\" data-end=\"669\">\n<p data-start=\"594\" data-end=\"669\"><strong data-start=\"594\" data-end=\"603\">Lager beer<\/strong> Fermented in the cold (around 8\u201312 \u00b0C) and with bottom yeast.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"670\" data-end=\"725\">\n<p data-start=\"672\" data-end=\"725\"><strong data-start=\"672\" data-end=\"679\">Ale<\/strong> Ferment at a warmer temperature (15\u201322 \u00b0C) with surface yeast.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"727\" data-end=\"804\">Ales often have a fruitier aroma, while lagers are cleaner and fresher.<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"806\" data-end=\"809\" \/>\n<h2 data-start=\"811\" data-end=\"837\">3. What does IBU mean?<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"839\" data-end=\"903\">IBU (International Bitterness Units) measures the bitterness of beer.<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"904\" data-end=\"993\">\n<li data-start=\"904\" data-end=\"925\">\n<p data-start=\"906\" data-end=\"925\">10\u201320 IBU = mild<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"926\" data-end=\"962\">\n<p data-start=\"928\" data-end=\"962\">30\u201350 IBU = medium bitterness<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"963\" data-end=\"993\">\n<p data-start=\"965\" data-end=\"993\">60+ IBU = distinctly bitter<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"995\" data-end=\"1118\">However, a high IBU does not always mean that the beer tastes strongly bitter \u2013 malt and aromas affect the balance.<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"1120\" data-end=\"1123\" \/>\n<h2 data-start=\"1125\" data-end=\"1163\">4. Why are some beers cloudy?<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1165\" data-end=\"1183\">Turbidity can be caused by:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1184\" data-end=\"1291\">\n<li data-start=\"1184\" data-end=\"1209\">\n<p data-start=\"1186\" data-end=\"1209\">About unfilteredness<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1210\" data-end=\"1228\">\n<p data-start=\"1212\" data-end=\"1228\">From wheat malt<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1229\" data-end=\"1268\">\n<p data-start=\"1231\" data-end=\"1268\">Dry hopping (e.g. Hazy IPA)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1269\" data-end=\"1291\">\n<p data-start=\"1271\" data-end=\"1291\">The presence of yeast<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1293\" data-end=\"1397\">Cloudiness does not mean poor quality \u2013 in many modern beer styles it is an intentional feature.<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"1399\" data-end=\"1402\" \/>\n<h2 data-start=\"1404\" data-end=\"1445\">5. Is microbrewery beer always better?<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1447\" data-end=\"1618\">Not automatically. Quality depends on the recipe, hygiene and process control. A microbrewery can make excellent or mediocre beer \u2013 just like a large brewery.<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"1620\" data-end=\"1623\" \/>\n<h2 data-start=\"1625\" data-end=\"1663\">6. Where does the taste of beer really come from?<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1665\" data-end=\"1707\">There are four main factors that affect the taste of beer:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1709\" data-end=\"1935\">\n<li data-start=\"1709\" data-end=\"1755\">\n<p data-start=\"1711\" data-end=\"1755\"><strong data-start=\"1711\" data-end=\"1721\">Malt<\/strong> \u2013 sweetness, caramel, breadiness<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1756\" data-end=\"1815\">\n<p data-start=\"1758\" data-end=\"1815\"><strong data-start=\"1758\" data-end=\"1768\">Hop<\/strong> \u2013 bitterness, citrus, floral, tropical<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1816\" data-end=\"1857\">\n<p data-start=\"1818\" data-end=\"1857\"><strong data-start=\"1818\" data-end=\"1827\">Yeast<\/strong> \u2013 fruitiness, spiciness<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1858\" data-end=\"1935\">\n<p data-start=\"1860\" data-end=\"1935\"><strong data-start=\"1860\" data-end=\"1868\">Water<\/strong> \u2013 minerals affect mouthfeel and sharpness of bitterness<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr data-start=\"1937\" data-end=\"1940\" \/>\n<h2 data-start=\"1942\" data-end=\"1970\">7. Does beer get old?<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1972\" data-end=\"2134\">Yes.
